This pot was made for the storage of fruit soaked in rum for which there are many recipes. It is a delicious way to enjoy Summer fruits in Winter and is traditionally part of the German Christmas celebrations. Soft Summer fruit is added every so often such as strawberries, cherries, raspberries, peaches, apricots, etc plus sugar. No cooking is involved. Just a good quality dark rum to cover and preserve the fruit! The fruity liqueur can be drunk in glasses and the fruit and liqueur is excellent over vanilla ice-cream. A cocktail can be made by adding it to champagne. Great on Christmas morning. This would also make a great gift. It looks good on display and can be used for storing other foodstuffs. This comes in a beige / light ochre glaze with vertical ribs and both sides labelled RUMTOPF. One side has a bunch of grapes in an oval rope design and the other side has two peaches , in a tan glaze. The lid is adorned with a bunch of grapes with a short stalk handle. The interior is in a brown glaze. There are two handles on the body for easy lifting. Marked to the base 801-28 (denoting the shape and height) W. GERMANY.
